in the preterist view, all scripture is fulfilled.
when jesus said to his disciples, " this generation ", he meant it.
they would not pass away until they saw the destruction of jerusalem.
As 1 Thess 4 shows, Paul expected the Coming to take place during his own lifetime. The Thessalonians were concerned that Paul had taught them to prepare for the imminent Coming, and they had written to him that some of those who had received that message had since died, which they could not understand. (When decades after, Paul's expectations were not fulfilled, another writer modified his epectations; we now call that pseudonymous writing 2 Thessalonians).
The people who wrote of "this generation" in their Gospel similarly expected the imminent Coming.
Their expectations have been repeated throughout subsequent generations and no doubt will continue to do so for the forseeable future. Learn the lesson that history teaches. (Of course, the story does help some people cope with the pressures and problems of life.)

A few historically interesting references from this compilation.

Bible Students the world over expected that with the expiration of the Times of the Gentiles, in 1914, God's kingdom would begin to exercise its authority over the nations of earth. And it was established, but in a different way from what we thought. The Devil was removed from his spiritual throne of rulership in heaven, from which position he had ruled the earth, as "the god of this world". (August 6, 1928, page 7)
We joyfully embrace and take the name which the mouth of the Lord God has named, and we desire to be known as and called by the name, to wit, Jehovah's witnesses.—Isa. 43:10-12; 62:2; Rev. 12:17. (July 28, 1931, page 3)

N. H. Knorr, convention servant, introduced a real surprise, a new portable phonograph designed for doorstep witnessing and made to play in a vertical position. It had a number of new features. (September 1940, page 15)

Dear Old Hippie,
Not a problem, my friend.
My eye was firmly fixed on any lurkers who might have misconstrued our repartee.
It is my practise to make the most of every opportunity to pass messages on to them, and you provided me with a great opportunity.
Thank you for enabling our joint message to be put to them.

I am a liar because I provide a direct quote from Russell? I can see that you are being facetious, that you are actually calling CTR a liar.
Today's historians see a significance with the Great War. Today's WTS copies these secular sources because it suits their reinterpretation of 1914.
CTR expected 1914 would see the end of man's rule, with the outbreak of peace under the Zionists.

i have the elders coming to my home soon and need help finding a watchtower where thay stated that the regular publishers were also prophets, i think it came out about 2007 i think but not sure..
crazyguy,
It is my view that one strong reason JWs "hang in" is they fear the impact of shunning. These elders are no different, each has the same fear - plus this is the only place they can exert authority.
The Elder operates with the knowledge that the WT hierarchy is constantly monitoring them.
For an Elder to report back that they found no problem from a dissident would put that Elder into an invidious position. Never expect balanced impartiality - the Elder's self-interest is paramount.

i have seen quotations from time to time that says the wt & awake magazines have been changed when the bound volumes come out , has anybody ever been able to list these changes ?
and make a comparison .?
to me this is quite deceptive , like speaking out of both sides of your mouth .if you pick them up on one thing then they quote something different , and have the printed page to prove it.surely they need to be nailed down on this.. smiddy.
I have listed changes between "Millennial Dawn"/"Studies in the Scriptures" at:
http://www.jwstudies.com/Changed_MD_and_SS_words.pdf
CTR used the title "Millennial Dawn" because he taught that the Millennium had already dawned (started) in the 1870s. He titled his magazine: "Zion's Watch Tower [future peace in 1914 under the Zionists] and Herald of Christ's Presence [past Parousia in 1874]".
Imagine what would happen to a JW if they started preaching CTR's message. The GB would have that JW - and CTR - booted out pronto.

pages 1766-1767 of the 2013 nwt states that the message of the bible is gods right to rule.. given that the wts declares that gods kingdom rule began in 1914, one would suspect that this would feature.
instead, there is a vague reference to something that supposedly happened about 1914.. here's the picture:.
http://www.jwstudies.com/2013_nwt__pages_1766__1767.jpg.
If the WTS was writing about "God's rule", then why did it not include its view that "God's Kingdom Rule" undertook its major change in focus in 1914?
Its picture of Satan being cast out is not "God's Rule". That picture is a story about Satan, not about the Kingdom.
CTR expected the outbreak of peace in October 1914, Rutherford was still teaching the 1874 Parousia as late as 1930.
How could "heaven's time" be synchronised with time on Earth, anyway? Does heaven have a clone solar system? Does heaven rotate in syncronism with earth's rotation about its axis?
